Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

WHAT IS OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER?

OCD is characterized by persistent unwanted thoughts (obsessions) that result in repetitive behavior (compulsions). While they usually operate in tandem, it is possible to experience symptoms of obsession without significant compulsions. Intrusive thoughts often keep the person suffering from OCD in a state of agitation or distress until a compulsive behavior is performed. While this condition can significantly diminish quality of life, there are numerous forms of intervention that may prove effective in treating or mitigating the symptoms of an individual suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
